After months of speculation, Apple announced its second-generation AirPods. We’ve seen two new iPads and an iMac update, and now Airpod update has arrived. At first glance, the new AirPods 2 look very similar to the original Apple AirPods.

New Airpods 2 with H1 chip

The new AirPods have a new Apple-designed H1 chip, that the company claims offers improved battery life and “Hey, Siri” support to trigger the virtual assistant without pressing a button. Your new wireless headphones will always be listening for your audio commands. That new chip apparently promises improved synchronization as well as two-times faster switching between your iOS devices and the Apple Watch.

According to Apple, new AirPods offer newly-designed H1 chip which Apple has built specifically for the headphones. It improves connectivity pairing times, as well as the efficiency of the battery life, which Apple claims will give you 50% more hands-free talk time — and the new wireless charging case works with standard Qi charging, so it should work with nearly every wireless charger out there. If you put them in the case for 15 minutes, you can get an additional three hours of listening or two hours of talk. The new AirPods also includes support for Bluetooth 5 and apparently promises improved synchronization as well as two-times faster switching between your iOS devices and the Apple Watch.

If you’re looking to add a little personal touch, you can add an engraving for free when you check out. The hands-free Siri voice control is nice, though. Now, you don’t need to reach for your iPhone to adjust the volume or tap on the side of one AirPod to activate the digital assistant. “For the first time, AirPods now feature the convenience of ‘Hey Siri’ making it easier to change songs, make a call, adjust the volume or get directions simply by saying, ‘Hey Siri,’ Apple said in a press release.

“The world’s best wireless headphones just got even better with the new AirPods. They are powered by the new Apple-designed H1 chip which brings an extra hour of talk time, faster connections, hands-free ‘Hey Siri’ and the convenience of a new wireless battery case,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, in a statement.
